Sherri Martel (born Sherri Russell in February 8, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a professional wrestler, currently competing on the independent circuit in the United States. As the tike, Sherri dreamed of becoming a clown with Ringling Brothers Circus. Instead, she became called one of a virtually all scorned women within agency wrestling history.
Career
Sherri Martel is better known for her period spent in the World Wrestling Federation (1987–1993), where she was referred to as "Sensational" Sherri, however she began her career in the American Wrestling Association, where she wrestled under a title Sherri Martel. She mass produced her debut in the early 1980s and by 1985 was the AWA Women's champion, defeating Candi Devine. She would trade a title back & forth by owning Devine, prior to jumping to a WWF (at present WWE) when she was however the AWA Women's champion. Inside her debut match in the WWF, Martel pinned The Fabulous Moolah to become a WWF Women's Champion, and thus vacated the AWA Women's title.
Sherri reigned when WWF Women's Champiin for Xv months, ingesting on opponents prefer Debbie Combs, Velvet McIntyre and Desiree Peterson. It get on October 8, 1988 that she was finally defeated for the title per immature fan favourite Rockin' Robin. In the early months of 1988, she portrayed Peggy Sue, the gentleHuman's gentleman of Honky Tonk Man, when appearing when Sherri in the equivalent period of time (Peggy bore shades & a light-haired wig, then she was non recognizable). While a WWF phased out its women's section within 1990, Sherri remained with a company & turned her attention to managing male matman.
After she became "Macho King" Randy Savage's manager, she became known as "Sensational Queen" Sherri. While she & Savage parted ways as the result a career match against The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VII in 1991, Sherri became the right hand woman of "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. She would so last in to handle Shawn Michaels before briefly turning into a fan favored & feuding with the psychotic Luna Vachon.
Sherri left a WWF within 1993 to attend cosmetology school, but re-emerged within Smoky Mountain Wrestling later that year & feuded using Tammy Sytch. She so joined World Championship Wrestling under the title "Sensuous" Sherri & managed Ric Flair. Her virtually all successful period as a manager was around WCW whilst she guided a tag team of Harlem Heat to the WCW Tag Team Championship on 5 occasions.
Sherri disappeared from either WCW around 1997 after developing an addiction to guide hurt killers. She was fired by WCW executive Eric Bischoff and told to seek professional assistance. She overcame her addiction & competed on the independent scene in the United States. Around 1998, Sherri made the brief go to to WCW for 1 nighttime, once she attacked Madusa, but wasted to her within an ad lib match. She became exposed inside the relationship with Col. Rob Parker, who was involved with Madusa at the time. Since so, Sherri has continued to function on the independent circuit & around 2001 was awarded the AWA Superstars Women's championship.
Sherri returned to the WWE on the March 24, 2005 episode of SmackDown! as part of the Shawn Michaels/Kurt Angle storyline leading up to WrestleMania 21. There, she sung the parody of Michaels' theme song with Angle. Fallowing the montage of Michaels' career, Angle put Sherri in the ankle lock before security came & broke it higher.
